Aviation & the Environment

Home

Concerns are growing about the environmental effects of aviation, heightened by the expected speed and scale of the increase in air transport and the promotion of general aviation. Air transport movements are set to double again in less than ten years. These aircraft are found to contribute uniquely to atmospheric air pollution and so to climate change. At airports, aircraft and ground traffic cause noise and gaseous emissions, with implications for the health and welfare of individuals, communities and wildlife. Airport development is capable of radically altering the character of towns, villages and the countryside. Even the loveliest places can be blighted by aircraft noise, fumes and fuel droplets in the air.

The Trust works to promote a real understanding of the effects of aviation both locally and internationally and to explore ways in which pollution and other adverse effects can be reduced.

Further information on these and other issues can be found by going to our "Aviation and the Environment Databank".
